ScreenCasting
A screencast is a recording of your computer or iPad screen including mouse movements and often audio narration.
“I couldn’t find it on Canvas.”
“I couldn’t figure out how to upload the assignment.”
“Can you go over more examples?”
Statements and questions similar to these are probably familiar to many of you. You can instruct students on how to upload an assignment, navigate through Canvas, create a Blog, or do other computer / iPad based work without using a lot of class time or having to re-explain and demonstrate multiple times by creating a screencast of yourself stepping through the process and share that video with your students.
Screencasts can also be used to go through extra practice problems on your tablet computer or iPad and show students step-by-step how to solve problems allowing them to pause, go back, or skip ahead depending on their needs.
Screencast-O-Matic is a free web-based software that with just a few clicks can get you set up to record your computer screen (or even just a portion of your screen). What you need to do ahead of time: Sign up for Screecast-O-matic free version or pay for the $1.50 per month premium subscription which has more editing features.
