Wakelet: Content Curation and Reading Tool

Wakelet is a content curation tool that helps you organize articles and websites. In an era of information overload content curation is more and more practical for both an individual practice and reading aide for students. Students gain digital literacy skills as they learn to organize what website and articles they would like to read. In addition it helps them to reflect on what information is worth saving, perhaps has it applies to that upcoming research paper. Similar to flipgrid, Wakelet helps aggregate media and websites that you want students to read, but has some powerful additions.

The Read Mode (beta) and Immersive Reader option is really wonderful for ESL students. Any article you see in Wakelet gives you the option to select Read Mode which takes away all the sponsored content, so that the reader can just focus on the text. From there, students can adjust the Immersive Reader option which allows them to change the background of the page, read-aloud text, hover over words and have them show a different language of your choosing and an image for comprehension.

*Tip: Use Wakelet not just as a tool to deliver content to students, but have them design newsletters or curate their own dashboard of content for a particular project or research paper.
