#BookSnaps - Snapchat as a learning tool?

Updated: May 10, 2019

Meet your students where they are. Assign a text for annotation and have them annotate over a portion of text by using Snapchat. From there they can write on the photo of the text, draw or assign emojis wherever applicable. Students can reflect on a text in a book, while using an application that they already use and enjoy. Is there engagement? Yes. Is there deep learning? Possible (depends on the task and what's asked of them).

Require students to respond or follow up with each other and create a dialogue through snapchat about what they are reading. School can be fun and they can still get their social media fix.

Alternatively, you could have students save their snaps to their camera roll and post on Twitter and included the @authorsname Apparently some authors love when people make #booksnaps of their books.

Tyler Madely recently did this with his English 9 class. Students reported having a lot of fun creating their Booksnaps. Each booksnap needed to have a poetic device, symbol and personalized content.

Below is a great article about that explains how to do this activity with a class.
