How to integrate a green screen into any classroom.

Incorporating a green screen into student film productions is now easier than ever. There is a green screen and tripod flood light set up in the recording studio in the Media Commons. Students can film using their iPhone, iPad or Camera. Students can also check out a tripod with an ipad mount for more stable filming.

Here is a great article from EdSurge that gives examples on how to incorporate a green screen into a lesson for a variety of subjects.

Recently, Tom Johnson's World History One class filmed using a green screen for their Ancient and Medieval Cities Project. Students had to make six different short films of themselves along the backdrop of an ancient or medieval city while talking about significant aspects of the city as if they were marketing travel to that destination. Students then embedded them into an iBook using the Books template in Pages to create an interactive and cohesive iBook on Travel to these unique places. Students learned the proper techniques for filming with a green screen and can now incorporate that skill into other film projects.

Attached is a video on how to overlay the greenscreen in iMovie for OS (laptop or iMac). If they would prefer to use iMovie on their iPad then they would need to film using an alternative app that automatically embeds the green screen. A great app recommendation is Green Screen by DoInk for $2.99.
